UAB nurses refusing to clock in (live video)

My 74 yr old fully vaccinated father in poor health almost died from Covid related issues this weekend. He is actually in UAB hospital as I type this, so this really pisses me off that they would take their time away from giving patients the attention they need to complain about pay. Luckily, is off of the vent, out of ICU, and appears to be on the upswing. But he has two blood clots that were more than likely thrown due to the body’s inflammatory response to the virus. He’s not out of the woods yet.

Being a nurse is like being an offensive lineman. All the dirty work for none of the recognition. But they knew this going into the job. They need a different platform than putting peoples’ lives at stake.
Hope your pops gets better soon bro. T&Ps

Hope he continues to recover.
I would be upset if my 81 y/o father was in there right now too.
My mother is a nursing instructor & my sister a nurse practitioner, so I also understand that side of it too.
Tough times for a lot of folks right now.
Glad your dad seems to be recovering for real.
I’ve got a friend who’s been on a vent for a week now. Not good.

The MDs are the ones you need to follow. They are all getting the shot. I certainly wouldn’t go with what nurses do, as they don’t have much background in biology, chemistry etc. They were trained to give shots and be nice to patients

It’s a wide field. It’d be smart to match your attention to their education level. I’d imagine most of the masters+ nurses have gotten their shot as well. They’ve also had plenty of science classes.

this. covid isn’t going away and it’s a virtual certainty every person on earth is going to get it some point.
So is the fear that there will so many variants that natural antibodies, and those from vaccines, will eventually become ineffective before all the anti vaxxers die out? Serious question, I don’t claim to be a virologist.

One of my best friend’s wife is a nursing director at one of the major hospitals in bham (don’t wanna say which one of the 3). She said so many of her nurses are unvaccinated and it’s been a struggle because so many are getting covid. It’s causing major staffing issues with them being out 2-3 weeks (because they’ve gotta test negative before returning).

Stranger thing to me is they see so many people in really bad shape and then the deaths. With the vast majority of their ICU patients and deaths being people that are unvaxxed.

I’m all about choice but I find this so bizarre.
Read what you just wrote and digest it!
Vac patients are getting sick and Dying and the nurses know it. They are not looking at the data and they are not reporting all data.

UAB has major problems

47 yo Auburn man and family friend just passed away from Covid

They offered no infusion therapy or Ecmo treatment

Nothing but a Vent and he died. It's criminal
I'll give you one guess as to why this is...all ECMO devices and beds being used by other COVID patients. Sorry but this is an issue in all local hospitals due to the overwhelming number of hospitalized COVID patients. I work at a hospital in Birmingham and we do have ECMO. On Sunday, I was the physician on call for outside transfers from other hospitals. We had five transfer requests from outside hospitals that day, a couple of which were for ECMO. I could not accept a single transfer patient due to lack of hospital ICU beds and bc all of our ECMO devices were in use. The physician for one of those patients told me he had called 5 other hospitals (including UAB, Emory, Vandy) asking if they could accept the patient for ECMO eval. All of those hospitals declined as well due to lack of beds/ECMO devices etc.

It’s because they are 99% fatasses. The vaccine helps but the main deterrent is not being fat as ****. (Straight from an ICU nurse)

CDC: Percent of US adults aged 20 and over with overweight, including obesity: 73.6%

So, I don't disagree ... but being a fat is, unfortunately, a characteristic of a large majority of Americans.

Ah, defend your incorrect assertion with virtue signaling, but this attempt is weak.
You didn’t talk about the significance of death. You told us about the significance of numbers, which 1,500 of 170,000,000 is not.
We just lost 13 people leaving Afghan. It not significant. We only value certain lives?

of the 1200 people that have died of covid in this state since april, 100+ have been fully vaccinated. i think the vaccine has some marginal success in preventing death, but without knowing the infected population n we really can’t know how effective they are.

i say that as someone who is vaxxed and encourages people to get it. it’s just not the silver bullet people make it out to be. it hardly even prevents infection.

1,100 >> 100

Based on the numbers from mid August, about 10,000 people have died of Covid that are below the age of 40. Out of a population of 166 million folks under 40 in this country.

Why are we mandating a vaccine for this age group?

Out of roughly the same population size, those over 40 have seen 600,000 deaths.

I mean, statistically, would that make more sense - to just require vaxxing those with the greatest risk?

Who is mandating vaccines? Hospitals? You do know these nurses come into contact with people that are high risk, right? It’s not just about the person getting vaccinated. Vaccinated are less likely to catch Covid and less likely to pass it on.

Ok, but logically, due to their job conditions - isn’t it probable that many (dare I say most) have come into contact with Covid over the last 18 months and are likely to have natural immunity at this point?

In general, why is natural immunity not talked about anymore?

LOL. Wow. Take a lap bro.
It’s not to prevent, it’s to help keep those infected from being hospitalized or worse….death. As in, take the damn load off the healthcare system that’s been overworked since Feb 2020.

  • A new CDC reportTrusted Source shows that since July 26, there have been only 6,587 reports of breakthrough infections that resulted in hospitalization or death among 163 million fully vaccinated people — a percentage of 0.01 percent or less.
Statistics can be misleading without context. For instance Israel shows that 60% of hospitalizations are from fully vaccinated. But if 70% of the population is fully vaxed I guess that skews the numbers. https://www.beckershospitalreview.c...s-in-israel-fully-vaccinated-study-finds.html

Yes but how about this part of Israel’s hospitalizations?

“Most of the vaccinated patients who were hospitalized, about 87 percent, were at least 60 years old.”
Yea, if you are over 50 there is no reason no to get the vaccine. That’s what is funny about statistics. If you are old you should get vaccinated. Doesn’t change the stats. The old will always be the ones in the majority dying. If they are 100% vaccinated they will still be the majority of people dying.

Same. I’m very pro-vax. While I’m not an enormous fan of UAB and other facilities forcing their employees to take it, I just don’t understand why it had to come to that point. Blows my mind so many nurses don’t wanna be vaccinated, I work with a couple stupid ones who refuse as well.
I don’t think it’s about the vaccine mandate.

Could you possibly make a less relevant comparison.
As the troll correctly said, every life/death is significant but he changed his narrative to bring up that truth. His original statement was, “significant numbers”. 0.000009% is not a “significant number”.

I don’t believe you to be an idiot but your comparison and “gotcha” attempt is definitely idiotic.

Personally, I have never equated most nurses as highly intelligent. They perform a job function, but it isn't rocket science. It does not surprise me that many are not vaxxed. Of course, I can't imagine working in that role and not being vaxxed... hell, I would be in hazmat suit if I was at UAB.

Facts:
There are not enough nurses
They don’t get paid enough
They are very very stressed these days
They are as concerned as anyone would be about getting covid and taking it home
Why do we care if they get the shot?????????? IT DOES NOT WORK. You need to ask yourself why our corrupt government wants everyone to get it when it obviously is worthless.

Nurses in the US are paid higher than they are anywhere in the world. How are they not paid enough? Their pay for a 4 year, sometimes 2 year degree is really too high for their value.
I hope you don’t have to go in a hospital when they find out how you feel!!!!

Exactly.... look at these salaries... insane

You obvious don't know how this works. My opinion is that they make above average income for a menial degree. They don't work any harder or more hours than anyone else. Instead of providing data or background, you simple gave your opinion and attacked mine. What is it about a nurses job that dictates they should make more? Honestly, if more people were willing to work and compete for jobs, they should get paid less.
