Unlike most of our magas the past four years, I won’t be cheering for economic ruin and destruction in hopes that it helps score political points. I sincerely hope sane Republicans find a way to constrain Trump or convince him not to follow through on his most extreme promises. His plan to implement across-the-board 20-1000% tariffs would be an economic disaster for the US and world economy. The same goes for deporting tens of millions of undocumented immigrants who currently do most of the agricultural work and many of the other toughest jobs in our country. Anyone who thinks that sort of reckless lunacy will make the US more prosperous is certainly not a conservative or economically literate.
The moment Trump is sworn in, the same people who now say our country is in a state of total economic ruin will magically flip to saying the economy is in magnificent shape thanks to his brilliant policies. Hopefully, someone around Trump will be able to quietly convince him to embrace this and take credit instead of following through on his extreme promises that will derail what is currently the best economy in the world. For all of our sakes, we need to break the decades-long cycle of Republicans inheriting strong economies and then leaving office in the midst of a disastrous economic crisis.
Congrats to our magas, the pore board is yours for the foreseeable future. Mercifully, our long wait for Auburn's only competitive sport to return is over.
