The unsung hero last night

was Chaney Johnson. He was an absolute beast in the 1st half and kept us in the game when most of the rest of our offense came off banked 3s. If he doesn't take over that part of the game, we may be talking about this game in a very different way.

Remember most of the board calling him a D2 player last year and a few of the "always right" crew declaring he would never make a significant impact in the SEC? Bruce said mid-season last year that he would be one of our best players this year. I see no signs of him not being right about that. He's going to keep getting better and better as his confidence grows. The SEC is in trouble.

Day After Thoughts 🏀

What a blast watching this team in this atmosphere! Auburn traveled and Auburn performed under the bright lights.

Game takeaways...

When Johnni gets touches, Johnni gets buckets. Houston fronts and monsters the post, but the staff was creative and sharp getting the ball to Broome in the 2nd half. Some of the best action I've seen us run.

Some of our guys looked jittery and wild early. Lots of bad shots in the first half, but the experienced guys played like experienced guys. We'll get more and more out of Pegues and Kelly as they settle in. Everybody's #1 scapegoat, Chris Moore, gave 15 min of fantastic defense. Chad and Chaney were solid.

Tahaad is the guy at the point. He is the only lead guard we have that can and is willing to get into the paint on his own. Kid is showing signs of being a real star. That job is now his and I don't think he will look back.

This is going to be a fun year!

last three game dilemma (football related, i know it’s basketball season):

So with three games left and still not technically eliminated from a bowl, imo doing any better with Thorne than 1-2 is around 5%. Thorne can’t (i know the horse has been beatin and eatin at this point) make plays at pivotal game defining moments (i can’t think of any pivotal good plays when a competitive game has been on the line this year or last). In this 0 for 127 stat, why would anyone including Hugh think he will start now? Do we give Hank the last three games to see if any life is possible out of this offense and determine if Hank really needs to inhabit a spot on this roster next year. We know the outcome if Thorne plays.

Describe Your Unpopular HC Opinion

It could be anything about the upcoming HC. Who don't you like and why? Who do you like and why? The only rule is that it must be an unpopular opinion.

Mine:

Lanning hasn't proven much to me and is simply winning with the team that Mario built. He's recruiting decently well, but I don't see him as an elite choice as of yet. His DC experience at UGA likewise could simply be viewed as a success due to coaching under Kirby.

HOOPS Bruce Pearl quick notes

And now we're talking to BP after his team won 102-70

  • "I can't begin to tell our fanbase how thankful I am to be the basketball coach here."
  • "I thought we played harder tonight than we did Sunday. We're still fouling too much... we've got to find a way to play aggressively without fouling."
  • Asked about Jahki: "He is so athletic and so explosive and he wants to be great. He has an energy, obviously -- we've got to teach him to play aggressively without fouling." Pearl said he's special and is very hard on himself.
  • On Miles Kelly: "You can see what a great shooter he is. The inside out game is important."
  • "Johni is a load inside."
  • Pearl said that they'll have 10 guys playing double digit minutes nightly
  • Asked about the Johni, Dylan starting lineup, he said that they'll vary up the starting lineups a bit this year, something they really haven't done in the past
  • Pearl said that they're treating it like a back-to-back and are practicing tomorrow morning
  • Pearl called Vermont "Yale-like." So.
  • "One of the things I like about our team is they play unselfishly... I thought we shared it pretty well."
That's all for Bruce

FOOTBALL The Latest on The Search, Vol. 2 (11-13-22)

John Cohen has been talking with more coaches.

We believe at least one of these conversations has taken “the next step” and we believe Auburn is getting close to extending a real, honest offer to become the next head coach.

We aren’t sure which coach could have received an offer. We will continue to search for reportable information.

SIAP - Jahki - One Shot, Overtime Elite on Prime video

Series on Amazon prime follows players going through this program in ATL and Jahki is one of them . Kid is troubled . pissed off and moping when he doesn’t get the ball (same body language that was seen against Vermont ) and fighting with teammates… hopefully Bruce can rehabilitate but he’s got a huge hill to climb.

They start focusing on his story about halfway through the first episode… It’s right after they finish a piece on the Thompson twins (that both went in the top five of the 2023 draft). Jahki was into with them throughout the series.

Episode 1 - Projected NBA stars Ausar and Amen Thompson work to quiet their haters and solidify their draft stock. Small-town TikTok star Eli Ellis joins OTE to prove he can play with the best. Jahki Howard, a gifted athlete, builds animosity toward two of his teammates. Coach Dave Leitao is tasked with managing flaring tempers during a game.

Episode 2 - Intense conflict leads to Jakhi's departure from his team. Trey navigates a personal tragedy. Eli tries to earn playing time while the Thompson twins prove they're NBA ready.
