HOOPS Bruce Pearl quick notes

We're talking to Bruce as he previews the Maui trip
  • Opens up by saying he had Marlene research the amount of SEC teams that have won in Maui and it's only been two. He mentioned that the ACC has won 11 and Big Ten 8 times.
  • "The way I look at it is we have the chance to play three great teams at a neutral site and find out where we're at but also help out our NCAA Tournament resume."
  • Talking about Iowa State's defense, he mentioned that its backcourt is probably the best defensive backcourt in the country.
  • More on Iowa State: "Being able to score against that defense - and the second thing is transition... those are going to be a couple of our biggest challenges."
  • "Our bracket with Iowa State, North Carolina and Dayton is a great bracket." Mentioned that it's a opportunity to play some of the best teams in country but also it is two of the best teams in the country playing in the first round.
  • He also noted that they've compared this path to the 2019 Final 4 run
  • Pearl said that Jahki Howard and Ja'Heim Hudson are traveling and available to play
  • On JP Pegues: "JP is super solid. I think he's better than he thinks he is sometimes... if he can see it, he can shoot it. I'd like to see him get more open looks."
  • Pearl on what his offense has done well: "I think we've shot it pretty well. I think we've been a good inside-out team."
  • Pearl said that they could do a better job of getting to the line
  • "Mike Burgomaster has done a great job as our offensive coordinator."
  • On his guys passing up a good shot for a great one at times: "That's the chemistry, that's the culture, that's the leadership... our guys recognize that playing great basketball is taking a shot when you're open but also making the right pass."
  • Pearl said that Auburn's depth will help it a lot in these back-to-back-to-back games. "Our depth should continue to help us."
That's all for BP

OT - Alien Earth on FX in 2025

I am a huge fan of the Alien Franchise...obviously not every film is perfect but I like them all in their own way.
I was intrigued by the idea of an FX show but I just realized that Noah Hawley is running it.
Noah is the Director, Writer, EP and Creator...this is a huge plus for the series.
Noah has done the Fargo series and Legion on FX...I think he is super talented and does a great job with edgy TV.

If anyone was on the fence about this one when it comes out...I think who is charge makes it worth a try initially.

Trump judge blocks overtime pay for millions of workers...

Remember when JD Vance said "we believe more Americans should keep more of their money." ?

Can someone help me understand why preventing folks making 30-50k/year from earning overtime pay is a good thing for the country?

Likely Coordinator Changes Forthcoming at Multiple P4 Programs?

Give credit where credit is due, on his most recent podcast Steven Godfrey spoke about a large number of coordinator openings that should be forthcoming at several P4 programs (Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Utah, Oklahoma State, and West Virginia just to name a few) spread across the FBS.

I can’t speak with any credibility as it pertains to those other programs, but you’d have to be blind to think Freeze won’t be “highly encouraged” to make changes on the offensive side of the ball here at Auburn. In that vein its quite possible (maybe even likely) that Derrick Nix gets the Head Coaching job at Southern Miss as he checks a lot of boxes for them, but my sourcing indicates that nothing is done yet on that front so things may be slightly more nuanced if he doesn't get that job. Regardless my expectation is that you see at least 2-3 changes to the offensive staff, and below are some offensive coordinators that would make sense to me as options for Freeze as they have some similarity in offensive philosophy/structure but with an updated flavor to the product they put on the field. With that said here you go:

G5 Coordinators Primed for the Next Step:

1. Brennan Marion - UNLV
2. John David Baker - ECU
3. Ben Arbuckle - Washington State
4. Joe Craddock - Tulane
5. Tim Cramsey - Memphis

P4 Coordinators:

1. Buster Faulkner - Georgia Tech
2. Jake Spavitol - Baylor
3. Casey Woods - SMU
4. Kendall Briles - TCU

G5 Head Coaches w/ OC Background:

1. Tyson Helton - Western Kentucky
2. Major Applewhite - South Alabama
3. Jason Candle - Toledo
4. Joe Moorhead - Akron

That’s all for now, but would love to discuss any of these candidates or others that the Bunker thinks would make Auburn more explosive or efficient on offense.
