I’m conservative and could care less if confederate statues/flags remain

Brent you're better than this man...serious question, have you actually studied any history of the Civil War and the Generals involved, on both sides. It wasn't this "Good" vs "Evil" narrative like public schools portray it to be (Confederates actually fought along side black men vs the Union)....and that's the entire premise of the problem here. The Woke crowd will erase any good parts of history, claims it's all bad and burns it to the ground.

Sure it was. If you fought in a war, and the main purpose of that war was to keep people enslaved, then you're a piece of shit.
How does a statue of a dead white guy on a horse (who's most famous for being on the losing side of insurrection) remember history? Is the message supposed to be "Hey, look at me, I fought for the South, and we lost, and I'd dead, so people made a statue of me?"
Were you opposed to the Iraqis who pulled down Saddam's statues after he was deposed?

Dude, stop. You're stating facts like you're a Civil War history PhD. You're not. Even those people don't really know what happened because all they have to go on is what people who were there wrote about it.
There is no reason for you to defend any position regarding the motives of the Civil War unless you're doing it to make yourself feel better. You should think about whether that's worth the cost to your reputation before you hit reply. Some things aren't worth defending at the cost of your reputation as a prudent and discerning person - especially those things you don't know enough about, and from which you stand to gain nothing.
A group of people that often mock the "participation trophy culture" we have wanting to keep their participation statues for a war they lost is rich.
This is true, I can agree in a sense..and I'm not saying you're doing this but some people try to put a 21st century mindset and apply it to the 17th-18th century where EVERYONE owned slaves. My point isn't about statues though, it's just an object, it's more about how far down this slippery slope will we go. Is anyone or anything a woke mob deems racist whether true or not worthy of being destroyed/cancelled? ( I mean freaking COPS was just taken off the air, COPS!)
Settle down Frances. Taking confederate monuments down from public places is not eradicating history. Being considerate of people who were oppressed during that time is the best lesson to learn as well.
Move them for the oppression that they represented. Move them because they still represent that to many. Put them in a place that someone has to go out of their way to see them because they want to.
Move them because they were mostly erected as a reminder that even though the Civil War was lost by The South, that stubborn resistance to policy change was still in play.
I’m as Southern as they get, but no way I can get behind the Lost Cause.
What do you think the WW2 vets would think of that? I bet they'd think you deserved to have your ass kicked.
And this is how it starts right here^^^ Anyone trying to apply good vs evil narratives in history has already lost...would you want people to just remember the bad things you did in your life? Who is the authority that decides good vs evil in terms of history?
I share the slippery slope concerns. But, if was a descendant of slaves, I wouldn't want my city to have on public property that my taxes help maintain a statue of a person who fought for a government that saw my ancestors as chattel to be bought, sold, beaten, raped, and murdered with impunity.
Good grief. No black alive today was "oppressed" or a slave. If your black, walk by the statue and think "damn we have come a long way from that time. I'm glad I now live in an America gives me the ability to make something of my self."
Removing a statue, that you should NOT be offended by, is bad.
Okay man. Make your stand against PC culture if it makes you feel safe. Just understand that smart people don't put their necks out without standing to gain something in return. The only thing you stand to gain is making yourself feel better.

At some point though..if you actually look at your family tree, everyone of our ancestors owned slaves either here or in another country..and that includes African Americans who were enslaved their own people. That's the slippery slope part that comes into play.

They would think those damn Germans are assholes and glad we kicked their ass. "IF" people tried to wave that flag in America, they should be mad as hell. Vet don't give two shits what happens in Germany, Japan, or Italy. The US literally helped those countries just months after the war like nothing even happened. The vets were waaaaay more pissed about that. And I know that as a fact.

You’re surprised I don’t have a huge issue with removing statues from public areas that honor the Confederacy? Nah, I don’t have an issue with it at all. Maybe you should look into why the vast majority of those statues were erected to begin with. Why southern states included the stars & bars into their state flags.
This isn’t about PC or the “woke” police. Statues to honor the confederacy have no place in America. Just like there are no statues honoring Nazis in Germany. It’s part of their history like the confederacy is ours, but it’s not worthy of honor.
What if they decide the Bible is offensive”? Here’s a heads up, many people already do find it offensive and have been offended by Jesus since He walked on the earth. There are more than 60 verses that speak directly to people being offended by the Gospel. It’s not something new.

As far as it takes. No one is saying history is to be forgotten. But c’mon, a downtown central square monument of a confederate officer that everyone can’t help but see as a constant reminder that it was erected to send a message that the war was lost, but that does not mean we are just gonna go away.
For another 100 years those same groups oppressed those they enslaved with racial laws, business practices, and hiring practices. Where children went to school, who could get loans, etc.
Now we still have racial profiling, radical racial hatred groups, and still outright bigotry that feeds off of those roots.
It is time.......waaaaaaay past time. No half measures. They have not worked. I can empathize with that view.

Sorry, but your lack of empathy and knowledge of facts is not a good argument. Being born black today, or even later this week still has many disadvantages perpetuated from those times.
While the opportunity to overcome those disadvantages is there, it is just a harder path.
And those statues were most often not erected for good reasons, as they were for sending a message that resistance to forced change is not going away.
You had all those things (minus Anniston) under Obama, and yet you complained.
How do you know the reasons why a statue was built 200+ years ago and has stayed at that institution since then? In all honesty, I don't even care about the statues really but tearing them down is a precursor for something bigger that's happening..cancel culture. Cancel, remove, destroy any and all things a group of people finds "offensive" whether it's real or not..including ALL Police in this country. That is a reality right now, it's not fiction, the US House just had a hearing about it.
