BASEBALL Will Cannon named to NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award watch list

Junior right-handed pitcher Will Cannon was named to the preseason watch list for the 19th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, the association announced this week.

Cannon, who was named to the midseason watch list in 2023, is one of 12 relievers from the Southeastern Conference named to the watch list, the most of any conference.

The Phenix City native posted a 3-2 record with a 4.41 ERA and led the team with five saves in his first year on The Plains. His five saves were tied for fifth most in the league, and his 15 games finished were tied for fourth.

Cannon tied for the team lead with 23 appearances a year ago, 20 of which came in relief, and struck out 44 batters in 49.0 innings. He went 2-0 with a 4.25 ERA and earned a pair of saves in SEC play.

Cannon and the No. 15 Tigers begin the 2024 season with a three-game series vs. Eastern Kentucky starting Friday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. CT at Plainsman Park.

Greatly enjoyed “The Greatest Night in Pop” on Netflix

The improbable making of We Are the World in the mid 80s.

The insane time pressure to write the song in 1-2 weeks (Lionel Richie, Michael, Quincy Jones). The logistics of assembling all those icons of music.

Highly recommend. Impressive that someone had the presence of mind to film the process.

Funny line from Paul Simon, as he looked around the room of all the icons of 70s - 80s rock. He says to Kenny Loggins, “Whoa, if a bomb lands on this place, John Denver is back on top!”

HOOPS New target for the PF/C spot (4-13-23)

Auburn has spoken with Clemson F/C Ben Middlebrooks and would like to see him on campus ASAP.

As you know, the Tigers are looking for someone who can be a semi-developmental guy to play behind Johni and JWill. The first target was Micah Handlogten, but he chose Florida last weekend. Middlebrooks may be on campus at some point this weekend. Not sure about that one yet. He’s supposed to be at N.C. State this weekend.

Ole 73 and bride were able to tour the Woltz FOF facility yesterday (semi-LAMP?) yesterday and it is stunning. Can’t imagine a recruit

Not being impressed with that place. From training rooms, to weight rooms, the position meeting rooms, team and media areas …. Locker rooms, indoor and outdoor (2) fields, nutrition programs. ALL first class

Our timing is probably perfect in the “arms race” as trying to match or improve on this will cost tens of millions $$$$ more than the $93 mill AU spent

Obviously ugag, the turds, Clemson, Oregon and some other programs have top notch facilities but it’s gonna be damn near cost prohibitive for most programs to try and pass AU in the “state of the art” football 🏈 facility
