South Carolina by the numbers

South Carolina has only given up more than 70 points only four times this season
  • a two point win on a neutral court over VT (79-77)
  • a five point loss on the road at Clemson (72-69)
  • a 27 point loss on the road at Alabama (74-47)
  • a five point loss at home against Georgia (74-69)
They are averaging 63 ppg in conference play but only interestingly, 66 ppg on the road (although the average rank of those defenses, per KenPom's adjusted defensive efficiency is 89th). Being that they muck it up from a pace of play standpoint, we will need to a) value each possession and b) be relatively efficient scoring the basketball. On their current seven game win streak, they are only allowing 57 field goal attempts per game.

Their defensive efficiency numbers are misleading (currently 47th on barttorvik.com and 50th in KenPom). If you look at their last 10 games, they are ranked 18th overall. But if you only choose away games, they are ranked 7th. Defensively, they've been better on the road than at home. That said, by those same parameters they are 91st in offense. And Auburn, by those same parameters, is ranked 20th in offense and 5th in defense.

Lastly, we are 0-4 in close games, good for 358th in the country. Carolina is 21st at 8-2.

Whoa, Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio says based on his long-proven KenPom stat model, Auburn is Final Four material

You Bunk folks would be well-served to listen to Matt Jones who was on JOX 94.5 this morning. Go HERE https://www.joxfm.com/podcasts/ and scroll to Cubelic show, Matt Jones who was 3rd guest on this morning's show. His Auburn take starts at the 6:15 mark.

Excerpt:

"I said at the beginning of the season that Kentucky's toughest game was going to be in the Neville at Auburn. When it's rocking - and it's not always, but usually rocking - the Neville is the 2nd toughest place to play in all of college basketball. I think that Kansas is the toughest place. With ESPN Gameday, and Bilas in town, it'll be rocking this Saturday!"

"And I know that was a clunker Saturday in Gainesville, but I think that Auburn is GOOD. Auburn is one of only FIVE teams currently that meet my statistical test of being Final Four material. For many years, I've used two qualifying stats from KenPom and the ONLY exception to it has been 2014 UConn. My model requires a KenPom Top 15 defense AND a Top 20 offense. Only FIVE teams qualify on that right now - UConn, Purdue, Carolina, Houston, and Auburn!"

Sure, depending on March Madness matchups, possible injuries by then, etc. our Tigers are like almost EVERY team this year vulnerable even the first weekend. We could "get got" game two, highly unlikely game one. BUT, be careful abandoning big dreams for this Auburn team that has a LOT of strengths for Bruce to deploy and the chance to finish strong here with these next two biggies in OUR HOUSE.

I'll be there tomorrow night, should be fun.

See ya Fambly. My last month. Rivals customer service is as bad as their ranking system.

I paid for the yearly membership on November 27th. For whatever reason, it stopped Friday. So I had to purchase a single month membership just to be able to reach someone to help try to resolve the issue. No one within the support system can seem to even find me and that I don’t have a current account and the one account that shows ended in 2022 so I guess I’ve been a ghost replying to you guys for the last 14 months. I know that customer service is awful but when Jay and Bryan don’t care enough about a person who’s been on their site for over 20 years, that’s Kmart blue light special customer service not Creed standard. I’ll get my money back from my bank and it’s sad that I’ll have to tell people not to join Rivals. Time to trade to a new site. Peace ✌️ out and God bless you Bunka.
