People that are vaccinated still catching COVID afterward

I know of 2 different people that got the vaccine in February and caught Covid this week. Anybody else hearing similar stories?

Are we certain though? Shots still rolling out in early stages. Can’t really know for sure until after 6 months or so (I would think)

Yeah I'm pretty confident we know. One of the reasons this vaccine was so easy to test was the presence of disease in population. Most vaccine studies would take YEARS to get enough placebo participants infected to even have any data to work with. Covid so rampant that process took no time whatsoever. All of the real world data is doing nothing but confirming findings to this point.

This thread went south quickly. I found about one, and I was kind of surprised. Then the second person told me and I was like holy crap. Figured I’d ask if anyone else has heard of this. Apologies all. Didn’t mean to offend or make this political.

well, maybe because it is technically not a vaccine but rather a trial.

It's just not groundbreaking if you understand how a vaccine works.

It fvcking killed my mother a week before Christmas and effects everyone differently. Go fvck yourself.
I’m very sorry about your mother. Again, this was not some sort of political pro Covid or anti Covid thread. Was genuinely curious if anyone else knew anyone with similar post vaccine story.

IT doesn't keep you from catching COVID....it keeps you from dying or having to be on a vent, basically. Totally lessens symptoms...also, variants are the unknown as well.
if you are even remotely healthy, getting COVID will not cause you to die or be on a vent.

Completely agree on the variants. For those taking the current vaccination, it doesn't protect against any variant of COVID, in fact, it weakens the immune system (the one that is naturally built to fight these diseases).

I don't think it turned south or got political.

I just don't think you have a very good understanding of vaccines.

They aren't 100%. Never have been, never will.

Basically, if you take 100 Vaccinated (Moderna/Pfizer) people in a room, expose them to covid, 10 will still catch it. More so with J&J.

Another way of saying that it that it's 90% effective.

I have not read any studies or heard anything to indicate this is happening. We have had zero patients at MGH that have contracted COVID post vaccination, at least to my knowledge. There is more to this story that they aren't telling you.

Yep.

The most recent Real World Studies are showing that Moderna and Pfizer are roughly 90% effective, down from the 95% testing phase. Still an incredibly high %, but it shows 10% of people are certainly catching the Rona after they receive the vaccine.

It not unbelievable that OP knew two random people that it didn't work for.

The group that has been taking it for longer than 6 months is at 91% effective in real world study. 800 of them were in South Africa and it was 100% effective vs that variant.
That's encouraging. Weeks ago I saw something that said it was very effective vs the UK strain but was unknown how it would do vs the SA variant.

Saw that too. This info came out today along with a few others last two weeks. I was worried about variants screwing us as well as vaccine hesitancy. Now just have to hope the latter slowly goes down as more people are vaccinated with few to no problems.

That’s a lie. A very good friend had a forty year old employee (Tri-athlete) die from the virus 3 days after being diagnosed with the virus. He had no “preexisting conditions.”

Many have died that were healthy or were hospitalized. It just a small percentage compared to the elderly and the ones with underlying health problems but it does happen as you pointed out.

Got my second Pfizer shot Monday. Zero side effects from either one besides a slightly sore arm from the second one. And as shots go, they were literally the most painless shots of any type that I've ever received

I get second one Monday. My bro and SIL got second one two days ago and it wiped her out. Felt like the 24 hour flu she said. Neither had anything on first shot. My shoulder hurt for 24 hours but that’s it.

Out of curiosity, did you have Covid before? Reason I ask is I’ve read mixed reviews on who feels bad after the second shot (people that previously has Covid and people who never had it)

There is a reason they call it a "flu shot" instead of a "flu vaccine"...there is no guarantee you will not get the flu after taking it.

Everyone realizes that the flu vaccine is anywhere from 40-60% effective annually right? Vaccines aren't 100% effective. That's why more people getting them is better because it builds herd immunity. But the covid vaccines are actually some of the most effective in history. And precisely 0 people have died after being vaccinated. That's the big one. I don't think there are any cases of hospitalization from covid after being vaccinated either.

Got Pfizer shot ( first) 3 weeks ago. Tested positive last Friday Very mild symptoms ...some loss of smell and alittle head congestion. No fever. No loss of taste. No muscle fatigue. Weird. Feel fine now. But it happens. Haven’t had the flu in 20 years. Weird weird virus

Good to hear you are doing fine now!

The vaccines aren’t 100% effective...about 1 out of every 10 vaccinated people who catch the virus will have COVID symptoms. The purpose of the vaccines is to guarantee you won’t have to go to the hospital with the virus, which is what the trials and real-world studies have shown so far.

This. People vaccinated will catch COVID. It's designed to lessen the likelihood of catching it and limit severe complications.

My biggest complaint with all of the conflicting information we're getting is the public being told to take the same precautions we've been taking pre-vaccine. Once everyone has had the opportunity to be vaccinated we need to live our lives normally so this thing can run it's course and go away. Otherwise it's going to drag on for years.

IDK anything about this guy, but his breakdown of viruses is interesting. Curious what some of the doctors on the board think about this

The flu shot is 100% a vaccine. There are many, many strains of the flu and the vaccine is formulated to address the most likely strains to be prevalent based on the previous year's data. Sometimes they hit the most prevalent strains and sometimes they miss.
