I don't know who Dukes OC is but he called a pretty poor game. They barely won against a bad NC team.
1. Maalik doesn't look like a "statue" at all. He just literally doesn't run. He sells the fake fine but he never takes the ball on clear open field with a crashing end.
2. Duke's OL was inexperienced but I thought were fine. Helps explain his low sack numbers.
3. Their WRs get NO separation at all. Every pass was contested and it wasn't one of those things where wide open guys are running everywhere. Also, it seems like they leave guys in for blocking who don't need to be there, making the numbers even worse for their wide receivers. Several WRs just come off the line and get caught by defenders and that's it.
4. Duke could have run for like 400 yards and put the game away at halftime. Their playcalling is so meat and potatoes that it reminds me of something from late Chizik era. They don't have any motion at all. Maalik comes up to the line, claps his hands, and 3-4 receivers just go run an extremely contested route and incomplete. Its hard for me to tell if he's inaccurate or if he's trying to throw the best catchable ball possible.
5. Maalik threw a lot into coverage. That worries me.
6. I have zero doubt that Hew will make him run. If he's a guy that doesn't like to run because he doesn't like getting hit, he will be really bad in this offense.
7. He has a ton of arm strength. I didn't get the feeling he throws without touch. A few times he missed completely which is scary.
8. Once again I just want to reiterate that the Duke OC gifted UNC an entire half before he realized what he needed to do. 3 and outs galore. Then in the second half he leans on the running game and voila.
