We are hear to speak with Bruce Pearl as Auburn opens its 2024-25 season on Wednesday against Vermont.
*** "Vermont is very Yale-like, which should concern us all." Says they will learn more tonight after Vermont plays UAB.
*** Calls Vermont's coach one of the best mid-major coaches in the country.
*** 9th in scoring defense and not turning the ball over last season
*** Vermont has a chance to 4-peat as conference champions. They run very hard to guard stuff. Their bigs are undersized but are physical, almost to a fault. They have a couple of dead-eye shooters as well. BP expects Vermont and UAB to be a close game tonight.
*** On what he's looking for defensively from Auburn: "We have to do a lot better job of being aggressive without fouling. These guys at Vermont have been together a long time. If you overplay too much, they will beat your backdoor. Their bigs can shoot it as well. Excellent ball screen team."
*** Says he thinks Auburn rebounded the ball extremely well last couple of games. Personnel is going to be very important in this game. They are a little bit more like Furman than FAU.
*** Tahaad should be fine after just tweaking his ankle.
*** On Miles Kelly: "He exceeded my expectations just a little bit because he had only been to one contact practice and then he played. He shot it really well and rebounded it really well. He's got length that we now have at that position. Our guards will play big."
*** On CBM and a lot of assists and defense in exhibition: "We are better with CBM on the floor. His plus-minus against Furman was +28. 6 assists. One turnover."
*** Says he thinks the guys are getting used to play together. 10 guys getting more than 10 minutes.
*** On Johni expanding 3-point shot: "I think there are a few things we can do to take advantage. It is about Johni making good decisions when he shoots those shots."
*** On JP Pegues against FAU: "I thought JP played really well. Played with confidence. Shot it well."
*** Mentions it is going to be hard to play better against VT than they did at FAU.
*** On excitement of season starting: "We are going to find out where we are at with this early schedule."
That's it for BP. Have a great Monday!
