Decent weekend for the Fightin' Mickey Deans. They won on Friday and Saturday before losing Sunday on a walk-off homer. That Sunday loss probably won't mean much in the long run, but the coaching decisions that led to that disappointing suffix were curious to say the least.

FRIDAY
  • Auburn wins, 3-1.
  • Auburn goes 7-for-26 at the plate. Two XBHs.
  • RF Alyssa Rivera has two hits including a two-run homer in the sixth. Changed the game.
  • Kaylee Carlson conceded six hits and one run. She earned a complete-game victory.
  • The win was Auburn's seventh in a row.

SATURDAY
  • Auburn wins, 5-1.
  • Auburn goes 8-for-29 at the plate. One XBH.
  • Four of Auburn's five runs were via error or sacrifice. Little by little.
  • CF Vic Draper and 2B Casey McCrackin finished with two hits apiece.
  • Makayla Martin conceded seven hits and one run. She earned a complete-game victory.
  • The win was Auburn's eighth in a row.

SUNDAY
  • Ole Miss wins 3-2 with a walk-off homer in the 8th inning.
  • Auburn goes 12-of-31 at the plate. Two XBHs.
  • Tannon Snow led the way by going 2-for-3.
  • Chardonnay Harris went three innings and conceded one run. Was pulled after serving up a double to open the fourth inning.
  • Ashlee Swindle relieved Harris and was a bit uneven. Her changeup (money pitch) was useful the first time through the lineup, but she tallied just one K. She went 4 2/3 innings, allowed eight hits and two runs.
  • The Rebels' game winner looked like a changeup right down the middle. It was deposited beyond the left-field wall by a right-handed hitter. She caught that one squarely.
  • The loss snapped the win streak.

GENERAL NOTES:
Why did Dean go with Swindle in Game Three rather than go back to Kaylee Carlson? He probably didn't need a sweep at Ole Miss and felt like Swindle, who hadn't pitched in an SEC game since 2017, had been making progress in low-pressure situations. Was she ready for this challenge? That seems like a reasonable risk to me. It ultimately didn't work out in terms of helping Auburn win the game, but Swindle is an interesting pitcher. And Ole Miss isn't the most deadly lineup.

Here's the full look at Auburn's lineup for the weekend:
McCrackin — 5-for-8, 1 RBI
Tan. Snow — 4-for-9
Rivera — 4-for-10, 4 RBIs
Podany — 2-for-7
Draper — 3-for-12, 1 SB
Shea — 2-for-10, 1 RBI
Perry — 1-for-8, 1 RBI
Veach — 0-for-9
Dowell — 0-for-8

Auburn went 21-for-82 (.256) with an OBP of .311.

Ole Miss went 26-of-87 (.299) with an OBP of .322.

Auburn wasn't charged with an error this weekend. That's out of 100 chances. (Ole Miss committed four errors in 110 chances.)

Auburn resumes play this weekend at home against Tennessee, which was ranked No. 2 two weeks ago. It was swept at South Carolina and has split two games against Georgia this weekend. They're actually completing the series tonight on the SEC Network.

Auburn is 33-7 overall, 7-5 in league play.

Auburn is in fifth place overall — trailing Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and LSU.
