Hot take. Please don’t read:

The players are a mirror of their head coach, and just as he deflects criticisms for personnel, game plan and play calling decisions, his players are now deflecting as well - this time from their lack of execution by focusing on the fans.

It’s just a bad look. Had the team done their job, less fans would have left, and those who still did leave would have been excused without need for acknowledgement. See Mississippi State...

The fans aren’t wrong to be frustrated. This script feels unfortunately similar to one were very used to. But yes, let’s focus on the fans, the weather, the students...

Maybe then, everyone will forget the home team outgained the opponent by 250 yards, held the ball for almost an entire quarter longer than the opponent, and allowed only 3 third down conversions for an entire game, yet narrowly escaped with a W at the last second.

Culture is everything in college athletics. And Gus doesn’t like anyone/anything challenging his process, his vision, his culture. The longer Auburn players are led by, and continue acclimating to, Gus’ culture/leadership style, the more reliably you can expect more of the same. At this rate, that looks most likely to be 9-3, possibly even 8-4, and 5-6th best in the conference.

TL/DR: as long as Gus is here, recruiting/stars do not matter. Schedules do not matter. Remove the names on the back of the jersey. We are Gus. And that’s what we will continue to be.
