Update #? (More numbers from the coast-echoing @stevesawbone)

This. The irony is the more idiots who say “my personal liberty” and who stay unvaccinated by choice are the ones who will keep us in this perpetual slavery by virus
And the first ones running to a hospital when they get scared that a little ol virus doesn't give a shit about their “personal liberty”. Everybody is a rough and tough, red blooded American badass- until they're not.

This. The irony is the more idiots who say “my personal liberty” and who stay unvaccinated by choice are the ones who will keep us in this perpetual slavery by virus
The recent variants are too contagious for perpetual slavery by virus. Everybody is getting immunity pretty soon one way or another regardless of whether people get vaccinated or not. The question is how many will die from choosing the latter.

“Personal liberty is the backbone of our country”- What does that even mean? Lots of things can be thrown in that little cliche. I submit that people sacrificing and valuing other people and country above themselves is the “Backbone” of our country. Im so glad people didn't exercise that “personal liberty” in WWII, or 9/11. I mean, why should anyone put themselves in harms way for other people, right? That's how personal liberty is granted in the first place. No one asked for this to invade our lives. But, its here now, and there’s nothing we can do to change that. But, we can all learn a little humility and do something as simple and quick as get a little shot to help this country, our families and our fellow Americans.

@mrhickory any new data on this affecting younger children than previously seen? I keep hearing about anecdotal stuff on Facebook about lots of kids dying that is freaking folks out but can’t find the data to support it.

Also, any data on Lambda? Vaccine resistant and much deadlier is the word from some news sources.

I don’t have the answer for that yet. Haven’t done a ton of research. Delta is drowning us right now.

Them as well

Some of the ones that hated on the media for 18 months now cheer them on when they mislead about breakthrough infections, future variants, etc. They are in the business of getting viewers. Fear sells the most.

I'll always side on the side of freedom. Those that want to gamble with their lives should be free to do so. Alcohol and smoking kill way more people than this virus every year, but we allow them the freedom to kill themselves anyway.

Defending our country, and a personal medical decision is apples and oranges.

Funny enough, your kind who isn’t getting vaccinated will keep a lot of freedoms at bay, potentially a normal football and basketball season. Hospital capacity is flowing over, which is a big reason you’re seeing things like jazz fest canceled

Uhhhhh, there’s a reason you can’t smoke inside most places now. There’s a reason drunk driving is illegal. When those things affect others, we make laws against drinking and smoking.

My wife and I are vaccinated. I take care of Covid patients in intensive care at one of the largest hospitals in Alabama. Assumptions....

What freedoms are being threatened by people getting a vaccine? Or, encouraging people to get a vaccine? One that would save their life if they contracted the virus. I see you deflect to other things like smoking, drinking. No one is passing on their lung cancer or liver disease to other people. And, hospitals aren't overrun to the point of turning people away because of those things. And, you missed the point if you just focused on military defense of the country as an example of self sacrifice. People have had to sacrifice for the benefit of this country in lots of different ways throughout our history. Do you put anyone at risk by not wearing a seatbelt in your car? Probably not. Its designed to save just one life- yours. Yet, you put it on because the government told you to. I dont remember, but was there civil unrest over liberty and personal freedom and choice when these laws went in effect? It doesnt matter, really. The govt is not making anyone get a vaccine. I just wished the selfish people that planted that “personal liberty” flag were honorable and strong willed enough to fight it at home instead of over burdening our hospitals, taking beds from people that need them because they didn't have a personal choice to avoid it. I mean, where’s all that pride then?

If you actually worked in an ICU handling COVID patients, you wouldn’t be so staunch to support those who refuse the vaccine. You’d know what toll it’s taking on people who shouldn’t be dead in the next 30-40 years but still dying from this virus.

What’s odd is Moderna has literally nothing in its pipeline other than the Covid vaccine. You’d think Phizer with its decades of experience would have the best drug.
#TeamPhizer

Moderna out 2.5-3 times the vaccine into people. They had similar efficacy vs infection forever but now the extra vaccine seems to be helping more. Pfizer put about 1/3 if what they did. Interestingly, moderna booster will be 1/3 too.

Compassion fatigue has it’s grip on all of us working in the ICU right now—except for maybe that guy…I guess.

I'm not cheering for them to refuse the vaccine. I'm just saying it's their choice.

Well said Shorts!

The lambda bs has been a huge talking point for them. It’s not vaccine resistant and it can’t beat out delta.
Totally agree. Delta is one bad beetch, no doubt about it.

Has their ever been a recorded animal crossover virus in history that gets stronger and more deadly over time? I can’t think of one.

They can get more contagious. I don’t think we can say it’s more deadly. Protection vs hospitalization (severe Covid) in the US hasn’t dropped even a fraction vs delta.

I am NOT anti-vaccine. However, it's just mind boggling the number of people who have been manipulated into thinking that this is a no-brainer decision. That it's just a "little shot" that carries no risk whatsoever, because a scientist, leading authorities or doctor recommended it.

It's too late now, but we've taken on a HUGE experiment of sorts, and put all of our eggs in one basket. It's NEVER good to put ALL of your eggs in one basket, but with such a large percentage of the world's population vaccinated with this new technology, if someone goes wrong, mankind/humanity is likely screwed. You never, ever take on that type of risk, even if it's relatively small. It's just not good science, and not good logical sense, but again, all of the leading authorities, scientists and doctors don't seem to consider extremely important things like that.

The only way this would be a no-brainer, is if we were taking vaccines based on tried and true classical technology that we have decades of usage data on. Anything else is an educated crap shot, and serious risk when ALL of the eggs are in one basket. It just serves as proof that we will eventually lead to our own extinction. Let's all be praying that we get away with this one.

The smokers and alcoholics aren’t the reason our icus are overrun right now.

But misinformation, propaganda, and a misplaced agenda based on manipulation is. If the leading authorities hadn't gone overboard trying to put super positive spin on the vaccine to manipulate folks into taking it, we might not be in this current surge with the hospitals overflowing.

They led everyone to believe that the vaccines were 99% this, and 99% that, and essentially positioned them as providing sterilizing immunity. They flooded every channel with propaganda that said, "Once you are fully vaccinated, we can get back to normal". They told over 165 million that they could stop wearing masks, stop social distancing, and start back conducting mass spreading events. This massive misinformation then led to the super-spreading events not even checking fully vaccinated. If you had a vaccine passport, you could get it without being checked and not wear a mask etc., all the while, many of these millions were spreading COVID and carrying significant viral load that might allow the virus to mutate. Hidden spread from millions, that isn't, and wasn't accounted for.

But you won't hear about how that contributed to the current surge, because it doesn't fit the narrative. It's just sad, but folks need to think about the truth, and all sources of spread when they are considering why "our ICUs are overrun right now".

Yet I was in Las Vegas last week and required to wear a mask in all of the casinos, unless of course I wanted to raise a cigarette, cigar, vape or alcoholic beverage to my mouth, then I was allowed to remove my mask. Talk about a fricken joke! You can't make this shiite up!!!

I went the beverage route and let the mask hang from my ear.

We don’t normally get viruses that were leaked from a lab either. All bets are off.
You got that right, Griff. Did you know that the armyworm invasion came from Asia? We are being attacked from every angle.

@tigrdent @gatorz1209

All of our numbers on the coast have continued to increase however our new ones are being offset somewhat by the number of deaths. We had over 30 Covid deaths last week with 16 of them being between 25-45 years old. Hopefully we are peaking about now, I suspect we are close. We will have a lot more deaths in the upcoming weeks but our new cases have declined the last couple of days. Here’s to hoping.
