Police arrested two people this week who were reportedly moving $300,000 worth of methamphetamine to Minnesota.
Bradley Smith and Kathy Anderson reportedly flew from Minnesota to Phoenix where they purchased four pounds of uncut meth and a vehicle to transport it back to Minnesota, said Police Chief Don Engler.
“When traveling back to Minnesota, their vehicle, which they just purchased, broke down and they were delayed in Payson,” Engler said.
On Wednesday, February 13, through a joint investigation with the Payson Police Department and the Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, officers began an undercover surveillance operation on Smith and Anderson, who were staying in a local motel.
Payson police and the Gila County Narcotics Task Force stopped Anderson and Smith in their vehicle before they left the motel. A narcotics task force K9 alerted on the vehicle and during a search, officers found meth. Based on the area it was going to and its apparent purity, the approximate street value is more than $300,000, Engler said.
“Several thousand dollars were also found in the vehicle,” he said.
Smith and Anderson were arrested on charges of possession and transportation of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia and booked into the Gila County Jail.
They are being held on bond.
