We played like shit on offense, but the major issue this team has is lack of talent, especially depth. We lack suitable starters at key positions like QB and DE. Tonights win, when you look back at this season, will likely be the EITHER the difference in bowl eligibility, or a decent bowl like chick fil a, depending on game-game improvement. We had to have this and it was a gift, make no mistake, Cal had a bad game tonight too.
That makes this a huge win for 2 reasons
1. It easily could have been a loss and we will lose our share of games this year. This gives our guys hope and a reason to improve, its big for team morale. As important, its big for national perception in the media, Auburn pulling out an ugly win, vs a VERY ugly loss to a worse team is a hugely different narrative.
2. Recruiting: This win may get us to 7-5. That's a record that shows improvement, it gives hope to recruits deciding if Auburn could be a contender under freeze. We are a few great players away from being competitive I believe that. A 6-6 or even 5-7 Auburn squad this year does not inspire confidence, but I believe this win gets us to 7-5. For recruiting momentum, that's a big deal.
This will be one of those wins you say could be a turning point for the program. Not because we are world beaters this year, but it shows Auburn is still Auburn. An SEC team that can win a title, that doesn't lose games like this, shows recruits they can come here and have a special year and win a title. Huge. Ugly. Sad. Win.
War Damn Eagle. There's still hope.
