...when it comes to the 2020 election, here’s a hypothetical not out of line, I think, with some policy positions of the current crop of Dem candidates.

Can a Dem nominee win the general election who (having been forced through the primary process to) holds these positions:

1. “Medicare for All,” which necessarily abolishes private health insurance (Sanders, Harris, O’Rourke, Warren et. al.);

2. THE GREEN NEW DEAL (Sanders, Booker, Harris, Warren, et. al.);

3. Third trimester abortions (all of them, as far as I know);

4. Reparations to the descendants of slaves (Warren for sure plus Harris and Booker, I think);

5. Open borders (O’Rourke and lots of others);

6. Abolition of ICE (ditto);

7. Guaranteed Basic Income.

I think during the primary, and the Democrats’ crazy run to the Left, all of them will have to be in favor of at least 5-6 of these positions to win the nomination.

Assuming FOR THE MOMENT that this is true, can somebody win against Trump if they stake out this ground?

Please answer the hypo before telling me why my reasoning’s off.

Love,

Gurn.
