the same problems are still there. lack of sustainable drives

Payton had 7 drives in the second half

6 mattered. there was 1 drive with 56 seconds down 10 points left where he was 7/7 passing for 69 yards. game was already gone. we saw something similar with ole miss game last year where stats ended up being better at the end of the game and gave people hope

without that drive he was 6/15 for 144 yards 2td 1int. yards per attempt is good but the completion % is not sustainable. cant keep an offense going like that becuase you find yourself in 2nd/3rd and long and less than 50% chance of getting it

the other problem ive been harping on for a while now- payton is awful when pressured. offense allowed 5 pressures on payton for 25 drop backs- thats not bad! actually a little above sec average for pass protection

for whatever reason payton gets sacked above SEC average when pressured (2 sacks on 5 pressures = 40%. league average is about 13-20% so he shouldve only gone down once). these are drive killers. 2 out of the 6 drives are dead.

add in the interception. thats another drive dead.

suddenly youre down to 3 drives in a half that can give you points, we come out with 14 which is pretty good! the problem is an average quarterback gives you 4 drives. plus youre not relying on a 40% completion rate to keep the drive going

if we do go with payton going forward, you HAVE to figure out how to get him to stop taking sacks OR you have to get his completion% abover sec average (dont see it happening). otherwise youre into boom/bust territory yet again
