Since we currently have a dearth of spreadsheets and data analytics (come hAUme @crococile22,) I spent some time perusing barttorvik.com to compare Auburn and creighton, as well as the teams' best players, NPOY candidate Johni Broome, and 4x big east DPOY ryan kawkrimmer. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but I don't make spreadsheets for free, so screenshots are what you get.
On the teams:
Overall they are solid on both ends, but not as solid as AU. Their efficiency metrics are helped by playing a much easier schedule, doe.
Auburn's biggest weakness, statistally, is the FT rate we allow on d. However, this matches up perfectly with creighton, who is just as bad at drawing FTs on offense.
One of the reasons for this is their high 3pt rate, 11th in the country. Again, this should be a good matchup for us, having the #5 3pt defense, allowing the fewest 3s of any power conference team. They are only middle of the pack in 3pt%, and we are 43rd.
Here are the same #s, but only vs Q1-2 teams:
As expected, AU's numbers dip a bit against higher competition, while creighton's actually improve in several categories. Their sample is smaller, with us having as many Q1&2 wins as they have games played.
The jays have some impressive wins - "#1" kansas by 13, pop isaacs went for 27 but is hurt and hasn't played since, st john's by 1 @home (lost by 6 @sju and 16 in the conference tourney 'ship,) 2-1 vs uconn, 1-1 vs marquette.
They also have some bad losses - nebraska by 9, sdsu by 18, both with isaacs, georgetown by 24, xavier by 18. Lost to tamu by 4 and @uat by 8 as well.
They are #35 on kenpom, 9 below ole miss, 2 ahead of uga and 4 ahead of arky. They are a talented, well-coached squad, but we should be able to handle them, imo. Styles make fights, and our strengths/weaknesses match up well with their tendencies.
On the playas:
torvik has kawkrimmer rated 1 spot above broome for the full season. I also highlighted flagg for comparison. kawkrimmer shoots better from the field, about 6% better from 3 and 8% better from the line. JB is a considerably more productive rebounder and averages more assists and less TOs. Block rate is nearly identical. Kawkrimmer does not foul much at all, but he also draws less fouls than Johni, which is good for JB and Dylan, more importantly.
If you filter by top-100 competition, Johni is ranked #7 and kawkrimmer #39. Against top-50 teams, Johni is #37, kawkrimmer #105.
Miscellaneous:
Blue jays are notorious assholes, ranking top-5 in capacity-for-douchebaggery to body-size ratio across the entire animal kingdom.
Tigers - noble, virile, and hostile - are widely considered to be the coolest, most-handsome, and most-badass apex predator in all of mammalia.
Gimme the good guys by 13. 79-66.
