It has be well documented in interviews about Kristi Malzhan and her history of needing to intervene with Gus in regard to his strange personality in resolving player/coach/team issues. She has stated that Gus can't seem to get out of his funnel-focus mentality and can't see the obvious, thus needing Kristi's intervention.

Kristi sees this and has verbalized that she has to intervene with him regularly on it when it involves "micro-issues".
