Could there be a more fitting way for this team to secure the SEC title than going into Rupp to win for the first time since 1988? Would have been cool for the fans to do this at home, but this team is historic and winning it in a place where we had not won in decades over the league's most historic program is the perfect way for it to play out. Against the greatest league in the history of the sport, this group has put together the best conference record in Auburn history through 16 games to lock up an SEC title with 2 games left to play. Bruce's pre-game speech today was perfect. Our team has prepared and won games all year with relentless effort. UK had not. Our guys earned this title and Bruce made sure they were ready to take it today. Simply incredible.
History aside, this was a truly strange game. Can anyone recall a TV broadcast crashing during a game and never returning to the air? I certainly have not. Thanks to the Auburn radio network guys for turning their camera around on their live stream so we could all watch the final 8 minutes on their feed.
Miles was an absolute killer today. From the first 3 pointer he hit to open the game, he was on fire. 9 3s on the day for 30 points as he single handily picked up the slack for Johni having an off day. Miles' game today illustrates why this team has the greatest offense in the history of the sport.
CBM was also fantastic today. Every time UK tried to make a run, CBM knocked down a big shot. He was relentless on defense and drew the key technical foul in the first half that helped us get the lead to 15 before the break. We got 100% good Chad today. Hopefully, he can seize on this incredible performance and make it his norm the rest of the way.
As great as Miles and CBM were today, you could make a strong argument for Haad as MVP. With Denver going down early with the injury, Haad came off the bench with a nearly flawless performance. 21 points, 4 assists, 0 turnovers. Denver is an essential player on this team so have to hope the kick he took isn't a significant issue going forward, but Haad getting this kind of run today may be what takes this team to yet another level. Our offensive ceiling is higher with Haad playing aggressively as our PG the way he did today. Attacking to score and running the offense smoothly to get everyone involved. With Haad doing this, it will be very difficult for anyone to stop us.
What an incredible season this has been already. There is no doubt this team has a rare combination of talent, character and killer instinct. A banner is going into the rafters, but as Bruce just said on the post-game, the work is not done. Minutes after winning the greatest conference in history and he sounds as hungry as ever right now. Bruce, the coaching staff and players know this was a huge accomplishment, but this team still has even greater historic opportunities ahead.
