Auburn is closing in on Norfolk State coach Larry Vickers to become its next basketball coach.

We believe a deal will be completed in short order — possibly as early as Sunday morning.

The Spartans were knocked out of the NCAAs on Saturday, but finished the season 30-5. Vickers is 177-99 as NSU’s head coach, though he’s 83-18 during the past three seasons. He has won three consecutive MEAC titles.

He is making $214,000 per season with the Spartans.
