We're speaking with the coordinator following practice today. First up is DC Ron Roberts. Click refresh, will continue to update...

** Drastic improvement from spring because guys did a good job of learning and studying over summer. Still got a ways to go but it's been a pleasant surprise of everyone knowing what to do.

** Jalen McLeod is a special talent, especially when it comes to rushing the passer. Has pretty amazing physical tools.

** Really good competition at LB. About six guys competing. Nobody has stepped up from pack yet. Need to be consistent on every snap. This is a LB driven defense. Going to be in a lot of 1-on-1 situations.

** Most of the new guys were here this summer on defense, which gave them a head start. They've all blended in well. The freshmen are still catching on, not used to the pace of practice yet.

** Been a challenge to continue to adapt to changes on offense. Roberts loves that part of football and studying the game. Can fall behind real quick if you don't keep up with it. Talk to kids about raising their IQ on defense.

** Wants to see his players at a high tempo in scrimmage. Will be an emphasis -- getting lined up right, avoiding pre-snap penalties.

** Keldric Faulk moved to defensive end. He's up to 290. He's in there fighting for job right now. He's going to be an impact players for us this fall.

** Bobby Jamison-Travis has some special tools. Still picking up things. Still getting in shape and a little behind mentally because he wasn't here this summer. But will help us this fall.

** Want those freshmen to get as many reps as possible so we have them shadowing veterans as much as possible.

** Said in spring needed 25 guys ready to play. Should be drastically different in two weeks but at 16-17 right now. Keep making progressions like we did today, we'll get there.

** Eugene Asante has made some huge strides in understanding defense more. He's competing for a starting job. Robert Woodyard is young and still trying to figure things out. Next 10 days will be big.

** Thinks they've got a talented group of freshman DB's.

*****THAT'S ALL*****
