I got the chance to catch a couple of Auburn commits in action last week and some others, so here are my thoughts.
J'Marion Burnette
J'Marion Burnette
- He didn't play much last week because Andalusia slaughtered Opp, but he had a few good outside runs, one of which was a 32-yard touchdown. He's definitely got an SEC frame and build, a little bit bigger than guys like Damari Alston or Jeremiah Cobb. Kinda reminds me of Tank Bigsby in a way — both of them are 6-foot-1 and are powerful backs who are certainly capable of bulldozing a defender.
- Opelika was handed a 44-13 loss by Thompson on Friday, but Malik Autry got his junior season going. He was the biggest guy on the field when he was out there, not difficult to spot. Thompson did a nice job game planning for Autry, there were several plays where he got double-teamed along the offensive line. He managed to get a couple of tackles, mostly on inside runs that he put a stop to.
- NOTE: Autry is still hearing from several SEC schools: Alabama, Florida, Georgia and LSU are all reaching out. He's planning to visit Alabama Sept. 2 and Florida Sept. 16.
- Obviously 2027 quarterback Trent Seaborn is an elite young talent who was fun to watch. Struggled a little early on with some over throws and missing his guy, but by drive three or four, he started to find his rhythm. Gonna be a good player down the road and still incredibly young. On the defensive side, safety Kaleb Harris had a well-rounded game. Had several tackles and a sack (corner blitz where he walloped the QB). Also had an interception. He's hearing from Auburn a little bit right now, but Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech and Penn State are schools he's hearing from the most. He's going to need a good senior season to be an SEC-caliber recruit.
