I was able to watch us, in person, dismantle this Purdue team.
I remember thinking “this Purdue team is good, maybe quite good, and we are absolutely putting on a clinic…just whipping their ass.”
The final score shows we won by 18, but that was after they went on a 10-0 scoring run on our walk-ons in the last minute or so.
We had them by 30 (28).
The way Auburn played together, moving as one on defense, calling everything out and communicating constantly was beautiful.
Watching on tv didn’t do it justice.
Our offense was outright erotic.
So much movement…of players without the ball and of course the ball itself. Everyone touching the ball, everyone playing for the team, for the best shot, and for the ultimate goal: a total team victory. Domination.
I know scouting and the grind of the season, of playing 30+ games is part of it. But not all of it. It can’t be.
But where has that gone? And can we rediscover it?
If we can, the only teams I think that can hang with us are Florida and Dook.
That wouldn’t happen until Final 4 and the Natty game.
And I would still like our chances.
If we can rediscover IT, the beauty of playing as one organism with only one goal, the Final 4 is our floor. OUR FLOOR.
If we don’t, we lose today, or maybe Friday in the Sweet 16 if we’re lucky.
