Time and time again, AU conducts a "national search" to fill a high-level position and then either can't fill the job or else finds the perfect candidate right under its nose already employed by the University.

The latest is from the search for the dean of the School of Nursing: "The national search for this important leadership role was not successful and so, we will regroup in the next few months to launch another search for the next dean of the college."

Is this normal for academia? Or is there something wrong with AU or its reputation that keeps good candidates from applying? Does AU need a new recruiting firm? Maybe it's the norm, but just seems like this happens over and over at Auburn.
