My 13 year old has a cross bite and they're recommending removal of two lower permanent teeth and then doing top and bottom teeth with braces. I said no on the tooth removal and they just said "ok we will just do the top".

I'm getting a second opinion Monday but just wondering if this tooth removal thing is common and are there literally no other ways to ensure there isn't an underbite without basically reconstructing her mouth?

I've looked up tooth removal for braces and I'm reading horror stories from people who regret it.
