We now believe, after conversations with multiple people with knowledge of the coaching staff, that Derek Mason intends to resign formally as the Tigers' defensive coordinator on Friday.

I reckon things could change between now and then, but that seems unlikely.

Mason's next step is unclear. Bruce Feldman, whom I hold in very high regard, reported last night that Mason was/is in talks with Oklahoma State about becoming Mike Gundy's defensive coordinator. We also believe Mason is considering at least one NFL offer.

What would Auburn do with Mason gone?

Current assistant Jeff Schmedding served as Harsin's defensive coordinator at Boise State, so that's certainly a possible solution.
