ATLANTA – Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl and two-time All-American Johni Broome were both named semifinalists for the 2025 Werner Ladder Naismith Men’s College Coach of the Year Award and the 2025 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Men’s College Player of the Year Award respectively on Friday.
Earlier this week, Pearl and Broome swept the Southeastern Conference Coach and Player of the Year awards voted on by the league’s head coaches and The Associated Press. The Tigers claimed their fifth SEC Championship title (regular season or postseason) under pearl and were ranked No. 1 in the country for a school-record, eight-straight weeks.
Pearl, in his 11th season on the Plains and 30th overall of his head coaching career, was joined on the short list by Dennis Gates of Missouri, Todd Golden of Florida, Tom Izzo of Michigan State, Pat Kelsey of Louisville, Grant McCasland of Texas Tech, Ben McCollum of Drake, Rick Pitino of St. John’s, Kelvin Sampson of Houston and Jon Scheyer of Duke.
Broome was a semifinalist along with Walter Clayton Jr. of Florida, Cooper Flagg of Duke, Kam Jones of Marquette, Ryan Kalkbrenner of Creighton, RJ Luis Jr. of St. John’s, Mark Sears of Alabama, Braden Smith of Purdue, John Tonje of Wisconsin and JT Toppin of Texas Tech.
