Rushing was brought to Auburn (as a general off-the-field assistant) by D.J. Durkin. The two coached together at Texas A&M during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Rushing was himself an NFL cornerback and has been coaching cornerbacks the whole time. He's replacing Josh Aldridge, who now is the defensive coordinator at East Carolina.
Though Aldridge coached OLB/EDGEs, Rushing will focus on nickels and SAM 'backers and Vontrell King-Williams will coach the entire defensive line.
This was Durkin's plan all along. This was his choice. And he's happy about it.
