He has two weeks to take first team reps and then ease into the game against an opponent we should beat (even with average QB play). He won't burn his redshirt by virtue of only playing in three games. He gets to put a sample size on film for Hew to evaluate in the totality of the QB decision for next year. It also sends a message to Hank that he isn't the next man up by default. It creates good competition in the room for next year when the portal QB and Deuce arrive. There's nothing to lose at this point. There's only a handful of seniors I'd be investing in at this point in the season. The biggest game of Hew's Auburn career (at Baylor) is around the corner. Might as well start preparing now.
