We left Auburn on Thursday and drove through Northwest Alabama stopping in Muscle Shoals at FAME Recording Studio and several shops in Sheffield & Tuscumbia. We then drove to Corinth, Mississippi and had a late lunch at an incredible dive called ABE's Restaurant. Abe has been cooking in this tiny place for 43 years and has terrific ribeye sandwiches which must be follow by chocolate chip cookies with chocolate "gravy!" A+ for ABE's.

We then went through Jackson, Tennessee where it was 97 degrees when getting gas and up I-155 & I-55 to Cape Girardeau, Missouri. We stayed there for the night and met a number of Auburn fans traveling up to the game plus some Missouri fans who said we were going to win.

We drove backroads to Columbia on Friday and not through St Louis, stopping at Jefferson City where we ran into a bunch of Auburn folks. Temperature on Friday was 97. We stayed in Columbia, which has beggars looking for a fast buck on a lot of the street intersections. I've read that these folks make $45,000 a year (no taxes) just holding signs up stating they need money to get home. Lots of nice areas around downtown Columbia with the best bar being Flat Branch Brewery. Sorry I didn't take pictures but Missouri has some great looking young ladies. The campus buildings, surrounding medical building and condos / apartments all have a great look. Sorority and Fraternity houses are right on campus and big.

Getting to Saturday night. It was 98 degrees one hour before game time. For $25 you could park directly across the street from the stadium in the VA parking lot starting at 3 p.m. No tailgating in that lot and no alcohol so the lot was never full. Missouri's facilities are lacking at the football stadium. It states 71,000 capacity but it looked like a 59,000 place. The Missouri fans were like Zombies going to the game - knew they were going to get killed, absolutely no excitement, like walking through a coma. It was 3/4 full at kickoff but quickly evaporated. Their cheers by the stadium announcer were like from high school. When they got a first down he would yell "M-I-Z" and the fans would yell "Z-O-U" but the fans could barely be heard. Every time he yelled it my wife thought of "M-I-C" (because it sounded that way) and thought the crowd should yell "K-E-Y" and then the Auburn fans could yell "M-O-U-S-E" Missouri's band was smallish, wore shorts, and looked like our Alumni band on Homecoming.

Drove all the way back to Auburn on Sunday. Left at 6 a.m. and got back at 5:30 p.m. About 760 miles. Very worth the trip if you like college game road trips and have the time. Next one we go on is down to LSU which is another game we will win.
