No one cares about straight lines and musical blend at the halftime of a prime time football game. Hell, even the "professional" marching bands have to make their members pay most of the cost of traveling and putting on shows because the general public does not give a shit.
The general public does not give a shit because "high level" marching bands are more boring than watching synchronized swimming, and the market for their performances reflects that.
Yet these band teachers continue to preach to the bands how good they are, how much people enjoy them, and how important they are to the gameday experience. These are all self-important lies that these overpaid dweebs tell each other to validate their existence.
Even more outrageous is the fact that these music nerds who couldn't cut it on the open market habitually talk down about HBCU bands because they have "bad tone" and other borderline racial critiques. It's sickening considering how loved those bands are compared to their own.
Military-style marching bands are a relic of a bygone era in college football. It's time for a change. Why not let the market speak?
