Gus Malzahn made his voice heard at the most recent Board of Trustees meeting at Auburn when he showed up and lobbied for the importance of a new football-only facility on campus.

"It is big not just now, currently, but more importantly for the future and will allow us to continue to have a good chance to compete for championships, so this is really big," Malzahn told the board.

Five days later Steven Leath announced on Twitter that a working group would immediately begin "exploring options" for the football ops building.

The board put pressure on Leath to make that happen, yes, but the whole situation is still a bizarre one to make sense of, considering Allen Greene appeared to have already begun working diligently with alumni, even allocating enough funds as of last month to deem the project was nearing a halfway point in terms of funding. Greene even told AuburnSports.com in May, "University administration understands the importance as well."

Jay's latest ADOB here explains the unusual situation further.

Either way, Malzahn spoke publicly Monday for the first time since Leath green-lighted the project officially.

“Excited that our board is in favor," he told reporters before an Auburn AMBUSH tour stop in Columbus. "They’re putting the work in and putting a group together. Really exciting that the project is moving forward. Really appreciate our president and our board of trustees.

“It’s exciting, there’s no doubt. The ball is rolling in the right direction. It’s very exciting.”
