Always loved Baton Rouge. Had an excellent meal at Juban's and then had a great time at the game. Maravich Center is a cool place. Would have posted last night, but there was a Louisiana coaches clinic at the hotel bar in Baton Rouge and the result is me posting my thoughts with a hangover.
That was a casual, balanced win led by stellar defense in the first half and probably the best player in the country in the second. Double digit road win over an LSU team that was much better than I expected. I'll take it.
Broome looked like he was pressing, uncomfortable, and whiny in the first half. He did rebound, but he was bad early. Then he settled in and did whatever he wanted in the second. It is a luxury to have a guy we can give the ball to and can score on his own. I think we'll see the shooters get going again as people run doubles at him.
Jumping their ball screens gave LSU fits and led to 15 1st half turnovers. We dont always do this and it was a succesful strategy (S. Pearl). Second half they adjusted a bit and we started to gamble and reach more, resulting in a foul fest. We have to be better with that, but in general our guards were very disruptive. Especially on inbounds where we forced two timeouts and a five second call.
Side note...Sat right behind the bench and everyone's favorite whipping boy was in good spirits. Clear to me that Jahki knew he was not playing tonight. However, I do think JP Pegues going in (I was wrong about him!) was a message to Jahki.
