UGA is on the cusp of greatness themselves. Anybody else sick of this bullshit argument? But my issues with Gus rest beyond our 2 primary rivals.
1. Lettuce assume Bama and UGA are 2 losses. Why are we losing 4 games per year?
2. Out of the Top 15 recruits from Alabama for the 2021 class, Bama has 4, Auburn has 1, but where are the rest going? Georgia, a traditional Auburn recruiting ground, has 7 of the top 15 headed to UGA. But none of the rest are going to Auburn.
3. I like Gus Malzahn's (Chad Morris) offense. I really do. When it works it's a thing of beauty. But it rarely works. Defense is the reason he is an 8 win coach instead of a 6 win coach.
4. Auburn is historically known for its toughness. Teams may come out of JH with a win but they damn sure didn't want to come back. We've lost that under Malzahn. Our defense was shredded against TAMU. Our OL has been garbage for 3 STRAIGHT YEARS.
5. I loved the Malzahn hurry up read option attack. It set records at Auburn. And Malzahn just gave it up. He started giving it up way before it was shown to fail. His first 3 QB recruits post Nick Marshall were Jeremy Johnson (2013), Sean White(2014), and Tyler Queen(2015). So he was running a historic offense but recruiting QB's for another offense. Now maybe those who have said that option attack was doomed to failure were right. Maybe Malzahn made the right move by going away from it. But we never got to see it fail. The last times we saw that wonderful offense, it put 630 total yards and 44 points against the # 6 total defense in Alabama. Then it put 435 yards and 31 points against #4 total defense Wisconsin in the Outback Bowl.
Obviously, I don't want Auburn to lose to Alabama and Georgia. Obviously, I want a coach who elevates us to that level. But my issues with Gus lie outside of our 2 primary rivals.
