Hole-in-one on the 157-yd par 3 at the LBW cattle trail course in Andalusia Saturday. Playing with my buddy from Dothan, but witnessed by the 3-some behind us who hit a ball near our tee box; also witnessed by a woman walking the nature trail with her 2 kids who stopped directly behind the flag... I'm sure she thought that was the safest place to be.
With a gimpy right knee that hampers what little distance I have left, I hit my 6 hybrid with a little draw; it was headed for the pin, bounced once and I lost it, thinking it had bounced off the back in the rough. But the doods behind us started yelling, "It went in, holy shit!" Then the lady started jumping up and down hollering something... I started getting excited and yelled to her, "Did it go in?" "Yes, it's in!" When we got to her she said it landed about 3 feet behind the hole and backed in!
Hard to explain the excitement when I saw my Callaway Diablo sitting in the bottom of the cup! Been playing since I was 12, so 48 years off and on, and FINALLY got my 1st ever ACE!
It took several holes to start playing... had 2 doubles and a bogey before the next par. But birdied 9 for a 39, so at least the final score was decent.
