Lots of folks on Twitter dot com are getting up in arms about the possibility of Auburn adding LED lights to Jordan-Hare Stadium. Here's what we know right now from sources.
  • Auburn Board of Trustees will meet next Friday, and on the agenda is replacing Jordan-Hare's field lighting.
  • The stadium wants to replace the old field lights with LEDs because they're more energy efficient and easier to operate overall. Plus, per source, Jordan-Hare's current lights are no longer made new. Outdated. Time to replace 'em.
  • Now, for the part people are upset about: The lights will be "capable" of a light show, like at Alabama and Georgia, but that's nothing new for Auburn. The renovated soccer stadium has state-of-the-art lights that can do it already.
  • That doesn't mean that's what will happen. It's obviously on the table. But it still needs to be discussed. And the board — along with athletics — will start by approving the implementation of the brighter and more cost effective LEDs.
  • Auburn wants the lights replaced before the start of next football season. Thought is that the current fixtures are on their last leg.
