SEC Player of the Week – Auburn forward/center Johni Broome, a 6-foot-10, 240-pound senior from Plant City, Fla., averaged 16.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in wins over Vermont and against No. 4 Houston. Broome began the week with 12 points and seven rebounds against America East Conference preseason favorite Vermont. He followed that up with 16 points on 10-of-15 (66.7 percent) shooting from the field, eight rebounds, five blocks, three assists and two steals against Houston.
SEC Freshman of the Week – Texas guard Tre Johnson, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound freshman from Garland, Texas, averaged 28.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals against Ohio State and Houston Christian. He shot 55.3-percent (21-38) from the floor, including a 55.6-percent mark (10-18) from three-point range, and 71.4-percent (5-7) from the free throw line. Johnson set the school record for most points (29) in a freshman debut against Ohio State. He then returned to post 28 points (11-18 FG, 5-8 threes, 1-2 FT) against Houston Christian.
