It absolutely sucks knowing what they used to be, and knowing what they are now.

Words can't describe it, bros.

It's so much more than talent, recruiting classes, philosophies, play calling, and what have you. At times, Auburn appears to be struggling against fate itself. I've increasingly considered this possibility. Maybe this is just what they are now. Maybe this is what they always would've been, had it not been for dudes who transcended the sport itself, like Shug and Dye.

The thing that worries me the most is that, as time goes on and we continue to wallow in mediocrity and squalor, the more Auburn as we used to know it fades into obscurity. We've never been in the wilderness for this long. For kids aged 14-18, the only Auburn they know is the Auburn that is a combined 12-42 against their biggest rivals since 2008, and an embarrassing 2-25 on the road in those same games. That's the brand now. That and the Kick Six. We're like the mighty ducks. A Disney show. The dim-witted sitcom dad who screws up 90% of the time until saving his pathetic marriage with some elaborate, zany scheme.

It's such an embarrassment.
