1. Turnovers per game. WTF is Nate Oats doing on this one? Maybe speed of play has been so emphasized that their kids get really loose handles on the ball?
Bama ranked # 301, 13.4 turnovers per game
AU ranked 6th, 9.2 turnovers per game
2. Turnovers forced per game. A defensive stat.
Bama ranked 306th, 10.4 TO's forced per game
AU ranked 184th, 12.12 TO's forced per game
3. Assist to turnover ratio:
AU ranked 3rd nationally, 1.84 on this important stat
Bama 114th, 1.27
4. The media narrative which has merit is that bammer will kill you shooting 3-pointers.
3-pointers per game:
Bama 20th, 10.2 per game
AU 43rd, 9.5 per game
Hardly a wild disparity.
I look for Burgo and Bruce, et al to see if they can force bammer to play more "left handed", giving them only the mid-range jumpers that Oats loathes to put up much. Essentially forbids his players from taking much at all based on Oats' quant analysis. Limit or take away the 3 line and the bunny baskets at the rim. Of course, the planning to do that is the easy part, we shall see on execution. But every chance AU can turn over the Tahd, the odds of winning go up for AU.
AU keys: Hit 10 3's, play fierce D holding bammer to 9 3's, turn bammer over 14 times, and limit your own turnovers to 9. Play defense without fouling excessively.
That may all be offset by the pathetic zebras sending bammer to the foul line 30 times, we shall see.
