Yes, Hugh had to sell Arnold “QB1 is yours to lose.” But read that line carefully. A planned QB2 can step up and make it impossible to keep him off the field at some point.
I’m pulling for all 3 of the QBs in a reimagined QB room that has a chance to get Hugh’s recruiting “vision” to a reality that requires no “belief”. Hugh has used all his mulligans with both recruits and AU powers.
Deuce should be the future, but by all accounts needs a year.
No reason to expect anyone but Jackson Arnold to start the opener AT Baylor. A must win road test if we’re serious about football.
Enter Ashton Daniels. It feels a bit to me like we are undervaluing his pedigree and ceiling.
And I’m not ruling out Daniels at some point winning the QB1. Not that I wish for Arnold to fail, quite the opposite. Just valuing both kids, if you will.

- Just me, but I really value a kid playing at a serious HS program like Buford in GA. He knows what Deep South football looks like. That’s a pipeline AU could really mine for elite talent going forward.

- Three-time GHSA 6A State Championship Game MVP
- Mother played volleyball at Georgia
- Father played football at Georgia
- His family has won a combined 11 state championships
- PAC-12 Academic Honor Roll
- As a Soph (2023), threw for a career-best 396 yards and four touchdowns in the double overtime victory over Colorado ... Recorded the first four-touchdown game from a Stanford quarterback since Davis Mills against Oregon State on September 28, 2019
- Threw for 367 yards and a touchdown while adding 81 rushing yards and a pair of scores against No. 5 Washington ... his 448 total yards of offense in that game is the second most in a single game in Stanford history
And I’m not ruling out Daniels at some point winning the QB1. Not that I wish for Arnold to fail, quite the opposite. Just valuing both kids, if you will.
