The only way I see Hew turning the corner, realistically, is with a top tier portal QB. Ideally, it would also be an athletic guy who could bail us out from Hew’s brain dead calls on third down and inside the red zone.

Is there a Cam Ward type portal QB even available? Will there be?

Walker White is an unknown, but doesn’t seem anywhere close to ready. Deuce can be great one day, but it’s doubtful he’s ready for prime time on day 1.

The way I see it, Hew has two realistic options:

1. Land a top tier portal QB and hope to god he’s either plug and play and/or athletic enough to mask our offensive line issues.

2. Roll with Deuce on day 1 and hope to god you’ve struck gold. Even if the record ends up as another 6-6 or 7-5 type year, Hew may con his way to a fourth year if Deuce has a good freshman season.

Those are the only two realistic ways forward that I see. Our running game should against be productive, but it won’t be anything we can lean on. Hell, we really couldn’t do that THIS year, even with Jarquez. The QB will have to be either a major upgrade (portal) or show immense promise for the future and provide that pesky proof of concept with a guy who has two more years left (Deuce).

Walker White, Connor Weigman, or Haynes King isn’t going to fix this. If he starts or gets any of those guys, he’s done. No knock on those kids. I just feel like that’s the truth.
