I understand why so many are sad and disappointed after the game. We all wanted to win that one and we had a shot. Literally though, the “shots” just wouldn’t fall. I also understand some of the immediate visceral reaction. Emotions and alcohol can create some serious instant anger. I’m hoping that today and over the next few days, heads will clear and hearts will soften.
The only people who were really hurt by the outcome of that game were the people in that locker room. The guys that laid it on the line and have worked and sacrificed for years to reach a goal that they weren’t able to reach. My heart breaks for those guys and coaches. My heart breaks over the fact that they will never play together again. You work and you work and then all of a sudden it’s over and today, they have to pick up and start something new. I hope we can forget about ourselves for a while and have compassion and empathy for those men who have entertained us and given us something about which we could be proud.
I’m thankful they chose Auburn. I’m thankful for their efforts. I will miss Dylan and his HUGE personality and his love for all things Auburn. I will miss JB. His number will hang in the rafters and deservedly so. I hope a few of these guys will return to build the next group round but those who have played their last game at Auburn, I, and I hope, we thank you. It was a ton of fun.
Chin up guys and gals. The weather this minding in Birmingham reflects the mood of most of us but the sun is still shining behind those clouds and we will surely see it again soon.
War Eagle!
