In the latest round of negotiations between Hamas and Israel this came out.
Hamas on Saturday signaled it is prepared to hand over all remaining Israeli hostages, alive and dead, in one group in exchange for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza under the next phase of the ceasefire.
So basically Hamas would like to go back to where it was before it started a war with Israel. They would have gained nothing and lost most of their infrastructure. This seems like a good time to tell them to **** off and that the war starts back in two weeks if they don't give everyone over and get nothing in return.
