I spoke with Coach Mickey Dean tonight at practice.
He said he's been in serial contact with the NCAA during the past few days and he believes changes or clarifications will be made to the new rule regarding plays at the plate.
As you may recall, LSU won the Friday game last weekend because Auburn catcher Courtney Shea was ruled to have interfered with the runner at the plate. The ball beat the runner and Shea tagged the runner before she touched the plate. The umpire, Dean said Wednesday, incorrectly interpreted the rule. He said the correct interpretation should have included the runner being called out and the runner being ejected from the game (due to her not even attempting a slide).
None of that will reverse the fact that Auburn lost that Friday game, but Dean seemed at least somewhat satisfied that the NCAA acknowledged that a mistake had been made.
