For those that aren't familiar, Evan Miya is a stats guy who used to work as a analyst for NBA teams and started his own college ratings site. The latter has done so well that he's now running it full-time. Many coaches are using his numbers to evaluate portal options. He had a really good interview this week on Southeastern 16.

His rating system is similar to KenPom in that he uses a number of metrics to rate teams with an offensive and defensive rating that combines for an overall rating. One thing he does that I like beyond that is a full rating of every college player individually. KP's overall player of the year rankings only lists the top 10. On Miya's player rankings, Broome is far and away #1 at 10.37 compared to 9.03 for Zeigler. (even more amazing when you remember this factors in a 2 point game against GA State into his averages) He is tied for #1 on offensive rating with Kam Jones and rates #5 in the country on defense. He's got an even larger lead on KP in the player of the year rankings so no surprise he's number 1 here. Where you can see why our team is so elite to this point though is where the rest of our guy's fall on Miya's rankings. Dylan is #12, CBM is #14, Denver #56, Tahaad #60 and Cheney #95. Miles is #130 and you have to think that's going to improve significantly given he's been banged up much of the year so far. Since our offense is being discussed as potentially the best in the history of the sport, you can see why in looking just looking at the offensive numbers with Broome at #1, Tahaad #11, CBM 17, Denver #39 and Dylan at #40. Dylan is also #15 on defense.

That all sounds quite impressive, but when you compare it to the other top teams the picture really comes into focus. Overall rankings for the top 5-6 guys for us listed with other selected teams:

AU: 1, 12, 14, 56, 60, 95
UT: 2, 58, 74, 87, 172.
Duke: 3, 31, 55, 72, 98
Iowa State: 17, 25, 62, 115, 183
UK: 34, 39, 54, 171, 176
UF: 29, 35, 59, 81, 82
Houston: 6, 24, 33, 64, 86, 94
uat: 37, 219, 234, 254, 261 (Aden)

The only other team with 2 guys in the top 15 is actually Mississippi State with Hubbard and Mathews at 13 and 15, but their 3rd best player is all the way down at 247.

Cool site to peruse if you need to get your hoops fix the next couple of weeks before SEC play. Lots of sortable stats so you can spend hours digging deep into the numbers.
