So Christmas Day mid morning the wife and I decided do a bit of clean up and add solar spot lights under 24, 11 year old live oaks we planted 6 years ago that line the drive way to the farm. Quarter mile from Auburn City limits. Our kids are in their 20s and would be coming by in the afternoon for dinner.
Heard at first boom that we assumed was fireworks. But the next few shots I heard the whistle of bullets going by and stirring up dust as they hit the dirt some 30 yds away. Yelled a few times and thought they stopped but they started back up again. We headed to a safer part of the farm and awaited Lee County Sheriff’s patrol to come by. As they were taking our statement the bullets started flying again. They left for 30 minutes and came back to say they had told them that they were shooting onto another property and to stop. Deputy said the neighbor didn’t know the bullets would travel beyond their one acre property. I asked the caliber of the gun. “706”! Idiots! I said they probably shouldn’t own a gun if they don’t know much about where their bullets could end up.
Officers both agreed.
