I just finished reading the Bellichik book by Ian Connor and I can’t help but see every other coaching decision through the lenses of the master of decision making. My question is how do we trust Hugh after he bet all of his chips on Thorne’s talent? I don’t want to do the “I always knew better” when it’s after the fact, however it appeared crystal clear to me that this was going to be a rough year after seeing Thorne for a year after only watching games. How can someone be so fooled by someone’s talent (or lack there of)? Hugh’s recruiting is undeniable even for the staunchest hew haters. On the other hand though, does he have the ability to do the on field catching required to win at this level?
