And the fan base filled with sidewalks didn’t act like these boogs we have running around.
A losing culture is extremely difficult to shed and rarely happens overnight. It takes years to cleanse the rot once it’s taken hold of a program. You’ll often see coaches commit boneheaded or try-hard decisions that defy logic as they attempt to turn a program around knowing time isn’t on their side. The pressure is immense, but once the program gains momentum on the field of play….
Winning in this era of CFB is about 2 things- winning the line of scrimmage and possessing a capable QB. You need an OL, DL and a serviceable QB. If you thought Auburn would solve a decade+ period of OL futility in two seasons, I don’t know what to tell you.
It’s amazing what a QB can do. Cam Ward will likely carry Miami to its first ACCC and a top seed in the playoffs, but transfer QBs are far from a guarantee as witnessed this weekend. Sure, we should have offered the kid from NMST- he’s smart, athletic, tough, a gamer and would have come cheap. However, kids like him rarely work out and their addition can disrupt continuity in the LR.
It’s taken 3yrs for Cristobal to build a contender and he walked into a much better situation compared to Freeze. I don’t care if Cam Ward was back there, he’s not going to look great when his LT is logging a 5 PFF score.
Bottom line, this season will look similar to Cristobal’s year two and with the crootin classes Hugh is bringing in, year 3 could produce a contender given he lands a QB and another tackle. Be patient.
