Auburn coach Butch Thompson spoke to the media this afternoon. The Tigers play at Jacksonville State Tuesday night and then travel directly to Vanderbilt for a Thu-Sat series.
** Confirms Davis Daniel will have surgery Thursday morning. He took entire fall off. Been working since opening day to get him back. Met every benchmark in his rehab to return for this season until he got on the mound and threw late last week. Started feeling same issues with forearm. He was devastated. He has such an amazing future, unreal work ethic. We're here to develop guys and move them on. Right decision to have surgery at this point in time.
** Probably two semesters away from degree. Next step will be the MLB draft. Probably won't pitch at Auburn again but want to keep all options open, have leverage.
** First major surgery at AU in 3.5 years.
** Jack Owen felt good after throwing Saturday. Wants to start this weekend. Good for 50-55 pitches this weekend.
** Going to move Tanner Burns up to Thursday against Vanderbilt. The other two starters will come from Owen, Brooks Fuller or Richard Fitts.
** Vandy has scored 132 more runs than AU this season. AU has come up short in some series, this is a chance to earn some respect against a great team. VU playing as good as any team in country right now. Best offense in SEC. VU has a lot of strong left-handed hitters.
